When we launched Wikio UK we thought that it would be useful to offer a Wikio Tool Bar; this is the bar (or frame) which appears at the very top of the screen when reading an article - via Wikio - on its original site.
This tool bar offers two main functions: it allows you to vote for an article and promote it on Wikio, and also to subscribe to the RSS feed of the corresponding media site or blog.
We had a debate here at Wikio Towers before implementing the tool bar - some people were for it, feeling it was a useful service for people browsing from site to site, others were not because of the technical and usability implications.
Since then, a number of bloggers and websites have told us that the bar throws up more inconveniences than it does advantages, and we've seen that few of our users really benefit from it.
We must therefore acknowledge that we made the wrong decision: we are removing the tool bar.
It will still be available to those who have signed up, though, as an option in their user preferences.
We're glad that this decision has been made. The tool bar has until now been our our most contentious feature, bar none... ahem...
