Top European Blogs - June 2009

There are a few changes in the Top 50 this month: a German blog is back on top, though it's not Basic Thinking taking back the title it held for so long as Europe's number 1 blog, but netzpolitik.org. In total Germany has 11 blogs in the ranking with 4 in the Top 10.

Sky TG24 drops a position to go into second place, one of 6 Italian blogs in the Top 50. Spain drops yet another two blogs, but still remains Europe's best represented country with 14 of the Top 50 - 7 of which place 20th or better; top Spanish blog Microservios is 6th.

France boasts 10 blogs in the top 50 with Le point sur le i and Le blog de Virginie B making their debuts at 45th and 49th respectively.

Britian's representation has climbed from 8 to 9 blogs, two of which feature in the Top 5: Ian Dale's Diary is 3rd, whilst Guy Fawkes' blog is 5th. Dizzy Thinks climbs into the Top 50 at 31st.

Top European Blogs - May 2009

There are a number of changes this month, including a boost for UK blogs. The UK now boasts eight blogs in the Top 50 (up from six), including two in the Top 5, as Guido and Iain Dale march up the rankings. Spain is still way out in front with 16 blogs, but that is yet again down two from the month before.

Germany boasts two new entries bringing it's total to 11, including the remarkable StyleSpion, which goes straight in at 9, having not appeared in last month's Top 50 at all. However, Germany's reigning champ was dethroned: after an amazing six months as top dog, Basic Thinking dropped from first to fourth, allowing Italian site Sky TG24 - Reporter Diffuso to take top spot. Overall, Italian blogs still make up only 6 of the Top 50, but again they claim 5 of the Top 20 positions.

French blog Poppyrose et la vie en rose climbs an impressive nine places to 24th, but the overall French total drops to nine.

Top European Blogs - April 2009

March's Top 5 European Blogs remain just that this time around. Germany thus retains the Top 2 spots with the recently sold Basic Thinking first, followed by netzpolitik.org in second; they are amongst 9 German blogs to feature. Spain dominates still, with 18 blogs, though this is down from 20 last month. The only change in the Top 10 invloves a Spanish blog: ALT1040'blog, climbing to 6th, replaces Italy's Sky TG24 - Reporter Diffuso - one of an impressive 5 Italian blogs in this month's Top 20, though Italy boasts only one further blog in the list making for 6 overall.

France's Froufrou et capucine makes an impressive entry at 27th, ahead even of the Techcrunch France - another of the French's 11 sites in the Top 50. Last and... well, in fact joint least... Britian is represented by 6 blogs in the Top 50 - all Political ones: Iain Dale's Diary, is top dog in 4th, followed by Guy Fawkes' blog in 8th; Liberal Conspiracy (22nd) and ConservativeHome's ToryDiary (24th) make the top half of the list, followed by politicalbetting.com in 31st position. Labourlist drops out to make way for Liberal Democrat Voice in 44th.

Top European Blogs - March 2009

There are a number of changes in the European Top 50 this month. Basic Thinking continues to rule the roost in first place and another German blog Netzpolitik.org jumps 9 places to go second. So whilst Spain still dominates the rankings with 20 blogs in the Top 50, Germany boasts both of the top 2, as well as 10 of the top 50.

France's number of entrants is up to 8 blogs from 6, thanks to new arrivals Korben, Journal d'un avocat and Une poule à petits pas, though top French blog Presse-Citron loses 2 places to drop out of the Top 10.

The UK gains a blog thanks to Labour List's apparition, meaning 6 of the Top 50. Iain Dale's Diary still leads the way in 4th, despite losing a place. Guy Fawkes also loses a place to go 8th but stays in the Top 10. Italy also has six blogs in the Top 50 and two blogs in the Top 10 with Wittgenstein climbing three places to go ninth, whilst Sky TG24 - Reporter Diffuso remains sixth.

Top European Blogs - February 2009

The UK can now claim just five of Europe's top 50 blogs, whilst Spain, despite a drop of two, still boasts over 40% (21 out of 50). Germany's Lummaland and Jeriko One are new entrants, leaving Germany in second place with 12 blogs, followed by Italy and France, both on 6.

Italy's guerrilla radio is another new entry at 48th, putting it just in front of Britian's Dizzy Thinks.

Iain Dale remains the UK's stand out blog, 3rd in Europe. Enrique Dans drops out of the Top 5 to go 8th whilst Italian blog Sky TG24 moves us 7 places to go 6th, just ahead of Britain's other Top Ten blog, Guy Fawkes.

Top European Blogs - January 2009

The Spanish still dominate the Top European Blogs ranking at the start of the year with an astonishing 23 blogs in the top 50. The German blogging contingent stays second, despite a decrease of two blogs, with 10. Seven French blogs grace the rankings, whilst the UK is tied with Italy on five thanks to the return of Politicalbetting.

Iain Dale and Guido Fawkes retain their Top Ten positions; indeed of the five British blogs that feature, all of them covers politics. A special mention must go to Germany's WordPress Deutschland and Netzwertig.com, who climb an impressive 19 and 18 places respectively. Congratulations to them both!

December's Top European Blogs

After Iain Dale's ascent to 3rd place, and the recent changes to our algorithm, the UK was looking good in last month's Euro Blog rankings, but with only four blogs in the Top 50, British blogs are currently languishing in last place this month. Mr Dale reatins his 3rd position, but Blah! Blah! Technology, Xlab and The Devil's Kitchen have all dropped out of the Top 50.

Basic Thinking remains top, representing the cream of Europe, and, of course, of Geramny's 12 representatives. German bloggers trail only the Spanish, boasting 22 of the Top 50, not least of all Microsiervos, who is still in 2nd place. France and Italy complete the rankings with six blogs each.

November's Top Euro Blogs

After the recent changes to our algorithm, this month sees a large number of changes to the Euro Top 50.

It's been a great month for Germany's Basic Thinking who has gone top. Of the prominent number of Spanish blogs, Microservios is the highest placed in second, and for the first time a British Blog takes to the podium with Iain Dale going third. 

France had previously been very dominant - boasting 16 of Setpmeber's top 50, with only Spain for competition - but their numbers have diminished hugely and this month sees only 6 French blogs grace the top 50. There are 7 British blogs, compared to 11 in Septmeber, leaving Spain way out in front with a whopping 19 blogs, followed by Germany who zooms into second with 13, and after Britain and France comes Italy with 5 in the top 50.

In total, France are still on top with 16 blogs in the top 50 followed by the Spainish who have 13 blogs in the top 50; Britain's blogging contingent is represented by 11 blogs and Germany's by 7 with 3 Italian blogs completing the list.

August's Top 50 Blogs in Europe

As the Olympics get underway, it is French blog  Presse-citron which takes August's gold, with Spain's Microsiervos second on the podium and a bronze for Germany's Basic Thinking. France leads the medal count with 16 blogs in the top 50, finally overhauling the Spanish who now have 13 representatives, down from 20 in April. But the UK is on the rise: four months ago there were only 7 British blogs in the Top 50, but this month features no less than a record high of 11, with Crooked Timber making the Top Ten, and Iain Dale and the BBC's dot.life in the top 20. Germany's 7 entrants and 3 for Italy complete this month's list.
